I didn’t get transferred! I will be here another six weeks. I spoke at Gainesville Stake Conference this week (I had four days notice which was good). We have some awesome appointments set up for this coming week. There are twelve missionaries in our district.
We also have Zone leaders. They are at our District meetings every week, though we have only had two District meetings this transfer.
Noah the Prophet
We met this miracle man named E________. We taught him the restoration and when we talked about prophets all he could say was, “Wow! That makes so much sense.” We talked to him about the spirit and how he would know…
Present Prophet: Thomas S. Monson
We have our next lesson at the church this week and our ward mission leader is going to be our member present.
Prayer at the Wailing Wall-Israel
Thank you for placing S______ on the Calgary Temple prayer roll.
I wish you’d send me a photo of my long haired cousin that is a boy. Daddy and family and extended family, I LOVE YOU A LOT! I am sorry my letter is not too descriptive. STILL IN GAINESVILLE FLORIDA! Sister Winkler
We had a lot of investigators at our Fall Festival! We have Stake Conference this coming week. We also have transfers, so next week preparation day will be on Tuesday. I am about 98% sure that I am going to be transferred. I have been here for about six months. Transfers are unpredictable.
Yes, it was that Marc Nzojibwami return missionary who edified at Calgary West Stake Conference last weekend. Tell him I loved his talk as I learned it from ya’ll, “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity” too. I love that! I also loved that quote of Apostle Jeffrey R. Holland,
“Indeed, we can have sacred, revelatory, profoundly instructive experiences with the Lord in the most miserable experiences of your life.” What exactly will be the most miserable part of our lives? Hahaha
We had great experiences of the spirit guiding us this week. President Hinckley said, “That is the test, when all is said and done. Does it persuade one to do good, to rise, to stand tall, to do the right thing, to be kind, to be generous? Then it is of the Spirit of God.” As Linda K. Burton in, “Tuning Our Hearts to the Voice of the Spirit.”
Thank you precious ones. Love, Sister Winkler
This week has been a great week. We have the BEST ward ever and are having family home evening tonight with our investigator and…
They just cancelled!
Learning lots! Thank you for your amazing story. I love you. Sister Winkler
We scrambled Thursday trying to get a member to come out with us to the lesson with S______. Sister Nance, our bishop’s wife ended up coming and she and S_____’s wife ended up clicking. The lesson went well, but there is more clarity when both husband and wife are involved in the discussions for sure. I will listen to the Spirit. Since being on my mission, I am more cautious about the situations I put myself in.
We are helping a lady in our ward through the repentance process. She has trouble with smoking and it holds her back from preparing for the temple. She is very strong. We are meeting her again tonight. She watched General Conference and we will follow up on the inspiration she received.
She had texted us after Conference saying that she had a new resolve to quit and “stay on the boat.” I love her so much! Her son has terminal cancer and she is a convert. Her son wants to serve a mission. They are such a fun family. She has been giving us referrals. One of them is R________. She is the one who is afraid to read the Book of Mormon.
The scriptures have been the best source of help to me this past week, in answer to the questions from persons we have been teaching. You know, with helping them to find the answers to their OWN questions. I have focused on asking questions that are more inspired as we can often get into the routine of simply asking the same things over and over again. You can know if it is an inspired question if you don’t know what their answer will be, or aren’t aiming for a specific answer.
I am not sure I am a big fan of the dubbing over persons who would prefer to speak in their native non-English voices at Conference, but it is fair.
I love you so. I keep getting the song: “I often go walking…” from the Children Hymnbook stuck in my head. I am sure my companion is annoyed with me singing it by now. Making princess dresses sound great when I get home. Crazy to think that is six months from now. Clifton and Zack will get home at about the same time as each other in May.
Cassie on trip to Italy and Greece
I am sure Cassie will be happy about that!
Just so my non-Canadian friends know…On Thursday, January 31, 1957 the Parliament of Canada proclaimed: “A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed-to be observed on the second Monday in October.” Happy Thanksgiving and love to all from Sister Angelina Winkler
Hey Y’all! GENERAL CONFERENCE THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!! Get prepared!
Conference Center Salt lake City, Utah
What a awesome week this was. We met a super elect family and THEY CAME TO CHURCH! They are a family of eight! The father is super interested and wants us missionaries to move in with them and use their farmland hahahaha. He met the Bishop on Sunday and told him the same thing. They will be out of town for the next two weeks, but they are going to be watching General Conference!
I’m super excited for Zone Conference this week. We get to watch the movie, “Meet the Mormons”!
We’ve also been able to get a lot of new appointments set up this week and start teaching some part member families. I try to keep y’all updated but it gets hard to look back and think what has happened this week! I got the package today from the the sisters from our former apartment complex. Thank you for everything.
One of our recent converts is having a a tough time feeling worthy. She doesn’t feel pure enough to go to the temple even though she is keeping all the commandments and living a worthy life. She almost went to the temple last week but backed out last minute. She was in an abusive relationship with her husband until about one year ago when he just up and died. She would be locked up in her room for days until he would let her out. We had a ward member suggest the talk, “The Hope of God’s Light” by President Uchtdorf.
This talk really hit home for her as the woman’s story is a lot like hers. I believe it will help her through this time. Conference will also be amazing for her, just in general listening to the prophet’s voice will make a big difference. Please pray for her. She is amazing! Her name is D——- . I don’t know much else to tell y’all about my week, it’s been awesome though.
We pressure washed a “gators” home and left some graffiti for them too.
How was y’alls week?
Two of my former companions at mission conference!
Lots of love, Sister Winkler
