Miss and love you all so much! We have had some crazy days for the past couple, and it has been a learning experience. I wish I could just tell ya’ll all that’s happening, the things I’m learning and just how amazing things are verbally but I really am not the best writer so I apologize for these awkward letters home. Things probably sound dull, but I promise they are not.
This is #LiveTheBook week. Go to Facebook at #Livethebook and share your testimony too. Invite all to #Discoverthebook and to #Searchthebook too. I wanted to share a little bit of what I learned this week about the Holy Ghost. The role of the Holy Ghost is to testify of truth, everything that is true is thus related to the gospel and comes from God. If it testifies there is no God and no Christ then it is not truth. I think it’s meaningful that the Holy Ghost testifies to each of us so differently. I often get shivers, just physically feeling that the Holy Ghost is there and we each need to identify His presence for ourselves. It is not dependent on where you stand. A child in Lake City when his mom told him she could feel the spirit he walked over to where she was and told her, “Funny, I don’t feel it.” Rather it is dependent on your desires and where your heart is. We cannot deny the spirit. We cannot deny the truth. We can pull ourselves away from having Him with us, but that is based on our choices. We can always choose to have the Spirit with us, it just comes down to choices we make. I guess, we just all need to write a book of the way we are growing each day. (OH YEAH! right, that is why we keep a journal…)
We set a baptismal date with a wonderful lady and her two children. She has four with one more on the way. They are so excited for their baptisms and want to start making changes in their lives. They are a black family in Archer and they LOVE white people so we told “em” we have tons of white people in our church. hahaha They are so prepared for the message of the restored gospel. It grows my testimony that God cares for His children sooo much.
I set a goal a while ago to read the Book of Mormon five times on my mission and there goes #2! I love The Book of Mormon so much. It answers my questions and just testifies again and again of Christ to me. I want to read it every day of my life even on my death bed, highlighting crayons and all…hahaha Miracles happen. Love to all…Sister Winkler
Sister M———- is not well and I have been getting lots of reading done. Sometimes the first month of a companionship is the hardest. We are working better together all the time. Good news, because she has been unwell, … Continue reading →
SO…we as a Facebook mission have been cooking up a plan to spread the Book of Mormon around the world and create opportunities to help us find opportunities to teach. Mission President Craig is wanting the Facebook missionaries to be spending up to four hours teaching people online everyday. We don’t do that…Yet! So, this is the challenge:
Four events in four weeks. Tomorrow (Tuesday the 10th) at 11:00am Mountain Daylight time everyone YOU included! Persons all around the world will be flooding Facebook with #DISCOVERTHEBOOK. The Jacksonville Florida Mission is implementing this plan to hopefully see that the message goes viral. They’ve even invited President Monson…and Mitt Romney and those LDS Olympic people…but let’s face it all we really need is President Monson. He’s the tops!!!
The first step is to take a picture of yourself with the Book of Mormon as you’ll see on the group page and write a post about how you individually discovered the book along with the hashtag #DISCOVERTHEBOOK. Everyone will post at once, inviting as many people as you can. It is pretty exciting to think that using this tool could spread the gospel so quickly. You can be a online missionary with us tomorrow!
We’ll see what happens! Do it! And invite people! The Florida Jacksonville Mission is starting this and we’re wanting it to get BIG!
Happy Fathers Day Dad! I Love you lots! We will be singing at a retirement home on Fathers Day. I looked at Target for a Fathers Day Card. They were so much and I am on a budget. Just know I am so grateful for you dad. You are the best dad a girl could have! – Sister Winkler
We had this amazing experience this past week. We had been out finding and had walked by and talked to this younger girl who was very interested in The Book of Mormon as she was studying religion in her school. Anyway, we taught how the Book of Mormon is there as a Testament that Christ really did come to visit us.
We gave her a Book of Mormon and challenged her to pray and ask God and to call us no matter what her answer. She was about 14 years of age so she didn’t feel comfortable giving us her phone number. We prayed for her along with a list of all the people we had given Books of Mormon to over the past few weeks. And no reply. In the neighbourhood we went by to to see a former gator and she told us she was busy. So, we dropped the family history bomb and it just exploded and she was super interested in my fan chart. She’s from China so she told us all about her family history and how it interests her. We ended up talking about
The Book of Mormon and she tells us her daughter had come home with one some nights ago and has been reading it!!! She was the girl we had given The Book of Mormon to and prayed for. Point being the Spirit of Elijah is real! We wouldn’t have found out about her daughter unless we had talked about family history. She committed to come on a Wednesday night in July.
We had another trying week, we did really well numbers wise and had some great lessons. It is just amazing that way. It has just been tough lately. Gainesville is hard, we have been walking alot. Keeping hydrated is a big deal though. We walked for 5 miles the other day because we were stranded out of our area. Just little things like that keep coming up and I just need my sleep each night so bad!! This week has been so hard my body hurts. hahaha Last night we were biking in the rain and we just sang loud the whole time. We ended up finding a new investigator, and taught her all about Eternal Families. She believes in Eternal Famalies already but there were some new things about judgement and the three degrees of Glory that were new to her. A lot of people find the three degrees of glory really interesting because it’s very specific to our religion yet it comes directly from the Bible.
Hmm…What else this week? I’ll try and keep the rest of this short, but things have been getting alot better. Sister M——— and I get along for the most part. There is a much of compromise in our companionship as there is in every one but it has been hard. I love her so much and she has such comprehension of the gospel. We just butt heads sometimes. I think beginnings are always the hardest. I don’t think she views me as her trainer so doesn’t really respect the way I go about to lovingly correct. Sometimes she is just yelling at me and I don’t even get why. She has medicine that causes some challenges for her at times. I smile and try to keep light-hearted about it. Some of it is from pride on both our parts. It is hard trying to figure someone out and also keep the peace.
Personal study and prayer have been my biggest guide lately. The Book of Mormon has a story about what I am going through and somehow it’s always right there where I am reading. We talk about what’s happening and our “fights” in companion study but by the time we get to it I’ve had my heart softened and I’ve been corrected and I’m able to to step back and either point out how silly it is or how we can resolve it. I am going to use this in the future when I am in the same scenario. Just go read and pray. I LOVE being a missionary!! It’s awesome best times!! Love you lots. Sister Winkler
