This Area is So Elect…Bit by a Snake…Power of Every Day Missionaries…Taco Bell…

Well this week was…I don’t know what to call it…hahaha.  By far the most interesting week.  We had so much happen, I felt like it was a month.  I’ll start at the beginning and try to keep it short but long enough so ya’ll get the point.

So Monday Sister M——— wanted Taco Bell…Tuesday her and Sister S——- get sick from Taco Bell.  I vow to never eat there again.  I got to study for 4 hours though while she slept.  I’ve never stayed home before so I wasn’t sure what to do but I loved the study time and got a lot done.  We got to go out later that day. We were on foot because one of the tires got a flat.  We did so  much contacting because of the flat tire AND got  a lot of new investigators. Moving on to… Wednesday we did a full day of service!

Thursday we had Zone Conference!  It was so good.  We are now allowed to do family history on our iPads and to learn how to do it so we can teach it to others.  I feel like we are learning everything all at once.  It is a lot to balance, iPads, Facebook and Family History now.  It keeps things interesting and I’m learning much.  Especially when we have opportunities to teach.  That is when I learn the most.  Our Misson President’s wife, Sister Craig is my absolute favorite.  I cry at pretty much everything now.  She is such a boss at just bringing in the spirit and changing my life.  Hahaha.  We got home and found some more new investigators!  Then walking to the front of this neighbourhood for the sisters to pick us up…I was talking to Sister M———– and I stepped on something alive and mushy and it bit my ankle!  I grabbed my companion and ran.  I GOT BIT BY A SNAKE!  WHO DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN TO ESPECIALLY IN GAINESVILLE IN A POPULATED NEIGHBOURHOOD!?  Luckily the sisters got there in a couple of  minutes and our Ward Mission Leader is so in tune with the spirit that he called us like 2 minutes after I got bit.  WE WERE IN THE ER FOR LIKE 4 HOURS!!  We got home at 1:30am.

When the Ward mission leader (Brother D—-) and a companion, (Brother A——–) gave me a blessing there were no rooms so we had to do it in the parking lot.  There was this drunk man out there who was all into this blessing I was getting and he wanted to bless me too.  It was  kinda funny.  So I am on amoxicillin now and some other drugs, but it wasn’t poisonous.  It was just the craziest night of my life.

We were on bikes again on Saturday and it was 100 degrees, I have never sweated so much.  We biked 5 miles home.  I felt like taking my name tag off because I looked so gross, I was unworthy.  That night before we went to bed my companion was talking about how horrible the day was and all I could say was at least I wasn’t bit by a snake…

I thought lots this week about doing things because I am suppose to do them and doing them because I want to do them, with being a senior companion for the past while.  I’ve done a lot where I just think to myself okay, I have to set the example, so I’m doing it because I am compelled to do it rather than because I want to do it.  I read the talk, “Becoming a Consecrated Missionary” by Tad R. Callister (he is

AWESOME) and he says, “If you only change your behavior, then you will be the same person you were when you left home, subject to the same problems that plagued you then.  But if you change your nature you will go home a new man or woman, with the power and discipline to conquer your old Goliaths.  If you only get up at 6:30am because your companion does, you have merely changed your behavior.  If you also change your thoughts you have also changed your nature.”  That means changing what it is I want, doing those things not just to set a good example, but because I know I need to do them and I want to do them.

Anyways, this is what has been happening in the Florida Jacksonville Mission…I love my mission, I love the people I meet.  I know good things are about to happen here in Gainesville.  You should get a book called, “The Power of Every Day Missionaries.”  It’s awesome!  This week it just felt like again and again tough situations kept coming up and it was just a hard week.  I was thinking about, “I love tough things,” and I thought how God says to His people, “I will consecrate thine affliction for thy gain.”  (2 Nephi 2:2)   I thought, “Okay good things are about to come!”  I know it.  I have felt it since I have come here.  My companion and I are going to baptize A——!  This area is so elect.  I also thought of Joseph Smith’s First Vision… the little scripture mastery version where you memorize verse 15-20 of the JSH where he says, “I was destined to prove to be a disturber and an annoyer of his kingdom; else why should the powers of darkness combine against me?”

I love the Book of Mormon and modern day revelation.  I can honestly say I would not have gotten through this week without that Book and prayer.  I love that I get to learn each day.  Thanks so much for all that you do.  We have had some good success with Family History so far.  I love and miss you all.  Sister Winkler
